Recent Buy – January (Part 3)

Recent Buy – January (Part 3)

I am very excited that the new year’s bunch of purchases have continued (obviously not as nearly the same pace as it started earlier, but still reasonable pace) and I hope to continue this trend of investing in dividend paying stocks as year progresses. As a value investor, one should always be on hunt to find the bargain and keep investing in these bargains at regular interval, monthly or bi-weekly or whenever cash becomes available to be deployed. When bargains shifts from one company to other, we as a value investor, should follow the value stocks and maintain monthly purchases of these value stocks to create continuously growing stream of passive income. Continuous flow of dividend income stream that can grow over the time at faster pace than inflation rate is extremely vital.

In The Dividend Karma’s journey of creating constant flow of passive income via dividend investing, I try to keep looking around hunting for the value dividend stock and post it on this blog once I made a decision and pull the trigger to buy piece of business within any such company.

January has been the month of Utility and REIT investing at TDK and anyone wants to guess what these new purchases are at TDK ???

Oh Really TDK, same old same old. Well, Sorry to say this but YES, Same purchases building up portfolio here in the same two sectors for the most part all the month of January. So here we go again….

I still think there’s a lot more room for these sectors in TDK’s portfolio without being overly exposed to either of these two sectors but I may slow down a little for a month or so, unless lower prices continues then I may jump again on these sectors for month of February, will see how market serves in February as we started off so nicely with lovely 666 points down on Fun Friday, hope this continues :). Although, I was pretty busy all day at work and couldn’t make any February purchases yet but those will come soon too :).

On 16th January, I added 50 shares of Southern Company (SO) at an average price of $44.45. SO pays quarterly dividend of $0.58 (paid in month of February, May, August and November)Dividends will be reinvested. This purchase will increase TDK’s annual dividend by about $116.0 with yield on cost of about 5.22%.

On 19th January, I bought 50 shares of General Electric Company (GE) at an average price of $16.117. GE pays quarterly dividend of $0.12 (paid in the month of February, June, September and December). Dividends will be reinvested. This purchase will increase TDK’s annual dividend by about $24.0 with yield on cost of about 2.98%.

On 26th January, I bought 10 shares of Dominion Energy (D) at an average price of $75.544. D pays quarterly dividend of $0.835 (RECENTLY INCREASED FROM 0.77, UP BY ABOUT 8.4%) (paid in the month of March, May, August and November). Dividends will be reinvested. On 26th January, I also added 15 more shares of Southern Company (SO) at an average price of $44.0562. SO pays quarterly dividend of $0.58 (paid in month of February, May, August and November)Dividends will be reinvested. This purchase will increase TDK’s annual dividend by about $34.80 with yield on cost of about 5.27%.

On 26th January, I also added 10 shares of Scana Corp (SCG) at an average price of $41.8492. 1. Hi Tom,

Good to know you have same mindset on same two sectors lately. Good to have a fellow shareholder of several companies to have think alike.

Good luck and hope we can get some good buying opportunities in this volatile market. I have to load accounts before I can buy but I am hoping to load it by tomorrow :).
      TDK.

  1. Nice buys! I am not much into REIT. I might still have some AGNC stocks. But, I am definitely neck deep into GE. Hope it does well 🙂

    1. Thanks Geek. Yes, I hope GE does well too. Only time will tell but I think it is good time to buy some quality stocks.

      Good Luck.

  3. Man you were really busy with purchases in January. Rough estimate looks like about $20k of capital put to work during the month. Congrats on that! And it looks like some really solid dividend payers/growers too.

    1. Yes JC. I had some cash available (ready to be deployed in my and wife’s IRA accounts) so I pulled trigger Utility and REITs. Hope this recent volatility continues before new cash becomes available to be deployed to take advantage of.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Good Luck.

  5. Awesome buys TDK. I’m a fan of SO, even though I don’t own any. Thinking about adding some to my portfolio. But I’m excited for you on the compounding effect that these January purchases are going to have on your portfolio.

    1. Thanks DP, yes I am very happy for been able use some cash that was available to be deployed. I am pretty sure these purchases will slow down in a month or so.

      Good Luck,
      TDK.

  6. You have been making quite a few great buys. SO, HCP, GE and D are all names I am considering and seem to have been beaten down to an acceptable level in terms of price and yield. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks DH. Great to know you have these names you have been considering as well. I agree these names have come down nice in recent days I hope to build some more position in these names.

      Good Luck,
